Can i hook up 4 ohm speakers to an 8 ohm receiver
There are many variables to consider when connecting 4 ohm speakers to your system. OK I have a sense we are going 'round and 'round. Short term surges are handled easily by the power supplies large capacitors.
Feb 13, Posts: You could try 2 ohm 10 Watt resistors in series with each speaker, might mess up the sound a bit, but the impedance would be 6 ohms and more stable. From the 2nd speaker's negative terminal run a wire to the amp's negative terminal.
4 Ohm Speakers... 8 Ohm Receiver? Help?
They will allow too much current to flow which can damage the amp. Just an analogy to try and get the point across.

Aug 16, Posts: To understand this better we must invisage a speaker whose minimum impedance is 4 ohms this is normally at the fundamental resonance of the drive unit in an enclosure. But as far as i knew doing that would overdraw the receiver and probally fry it. So type of line conditioning is a wise investment, though like all things, it should be in reasonable proportion to the rest of your equipment.

If your amp is saying 8 ohms, and nothing on fine print is saying it can handle lower, then whatever you do, DO NOT make it see less than 8 ohms. Aug 8, Messages:
